Here is what you need to make some yourself. (I got all of my supplies at Dollar Tree except for the glass knobs.)
-glass jars (I got a few different sizes)
-candlestick holder
-small glass bowls
-glass knobs (you can get a 3 pack at Wal-Mart for around $6 or buy them individually at Hobby Lobby. I made some with each and actually liked the knobs at Wal-Mart better.)
-E6000 glue
1. Apply E6000 glue to the rim of the candlestick, and place the jar on top and press together for a few seconds. Set aside to dry.
2. There are 2 different sizes of glass bowls at Dollar Tree. (The smaller size comes in a 4 pack, and the larger size in a 3 pack. Both are by the glasses at my store. ) Choose the size that fits best with the glass jar you're using. I used the larger bowls for my tall jars, and the smaller ones for my short jars (shown in the mantel picture.)
3. Turn the bowl upside down, then apply E6000 glue to the knob, and press down for a few seconds. Set aside to dry.
Then just put the lid on the jar, and that's it! Very simple, huh? I love apothecary jars because there are so many fun ways you can decorate with them year round. I got the idea to spell out words from Katie's blog & thought it was so cute! This was the perfect thing for the little counter in our butler's pantry.
Happy crafting! :)

Thank your for sharing!!
This was such a great and easy idea! I made these for Christmas gifts this year. Just a few things I added... I used etching cream to add the first initial of those receiving the gift. I also went to Home Depot and bought small clear tubing found in the plumbing isle. I cut it down the middle and super glued it around the bottom of the lid as kind of a seal to make it more stable (my lids wouldn't sit right until I did this).
ReplyDeleteI've done these using E6000 glue and can't keep them in my house. The glue smell is so strong, it's sickening. Has anyone ever tried these with hot glue instead?
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteI wish you would've left a way to contact you so I could answer your question, but since you didn't hopefully you'll check back here for an answer! :) I actually did use hot glue on these last year when I made them. Most fell apart before the holiday season was over, and the rest fell apart when I stored them...the bond just isn't as strong/permanent. I know what you mean about the smell of the E6000 being strong. I would recommend making them outside, and don't bring them in until completely dry. That seems to help a LOT with the fumes, at least it did for me. Good luck! :)

Love it! I'm here from Pinterest!
ReplyDeleteFYI
ReplyDeleteTo get an even better bond when you glue the parts together, try going over the spot where you will apply the glue with wet/dry sandpaper-both pieces. It gives the glue a better surface after its roughed up a bit, to adhere to. I'm planning on doing this, for sure and certain.
